In a house in Bethany, Jesus comes to find respite before making his way into Jerusalem for the last time. His friends, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, take him in and care for him, shutting the door on the world, for this one night at least. John tells us a story about that night. In that story, we find Mary anointing Jesus’ feet. It is an odd thing, but we see an example of what it means to be saved. In a moment of vulnerability, we see Mary pouring out perfume, and her heart, to Jesus.
