It is easy to make worship about us. When that happens, we flatten out our spiritual life so it loses any truly transcendent reality. When worship is approached and evaluated in the same way that a play, concert, movie, sporting event is evaluated, then it is no longer about God. God is reduced to a cardboard cutout, a one-dimensional object. That leads to a life disconnected from God, justice, peace, and grace. The call of Isaiah shares a vision of a fully fleshed out, multi-dimensional God who changes us. The worship envisioned is not about us, but about the one whose presence overwhelms us. That is the God we worship, named Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
