People often ask why God doesn’t do something about the evil, suffering and darkness in the world. At first flush, that seems a fair question. If you read the story of God and God’s people, however, you will see that God has indeed acted consistently to place light in the darkness. The light is generated by God’s people. As we receive the light of Christ in Word and sacrament, we are then sent out to reflect it in the dark corners we encounter. We are God’s plan. Generous hearts and hands and lives shine God’s light brightly. When we are not generous, we are just dim bulbs.
