Will we be judged according to our good work? Our achievements or status in society? Will the company we kept or avoidance of “the wrong people” put us in a good place with the Lord on judgment day? According to Matthew’s story of the “Sheep and the Goats” it comes down to the mercy and compassion shown to “the least of these.” Christ comes on the cross as the ultimate outcast and is rejected by all. Thanks be to God this Crucified one is our merciful judge.
